The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of Toshiba Satellite T Series Notebook Computers due to potential burn hazards.
The recall affects 41,000 Satellite T135, T135D and Pro T130 Notebook computers sold between August 2009-2010 for around $600-800 and involves an overheating of the plug/AC adapter posing a potential burn hazard.
To date, Toshiba has received 129 reports of notebook computers overheating and deforming the plastic casing around the adapter plug and 2 have reporter minor burn injuries as a result. And while a burning hazard is possible, the recall points to a threat of mostly property damage.
Users are advised to visit the Toshiba website and download the latest version of Toshiba’s BIOS computer program to their notebook computer at http://laptops.toshiba.com/about/consumer-notices. The BIOS update will detect whether the notebook computer is overheating, and if so, disable the notebook computer’s external power and display a message directing the consumer to contact Toshiba for a free repair.
Consumers who do not have Internet access should contact Toshiba to arrange for installation of the updated BIOS.
