ApfelBrett II MacBook Cutting Board

MacBook fans are serious about their Apple products.  You have to be in order to swallow the price tag that comes with all Apple products.  I do believe when I bought my MacBook I called it an investment.  Now that the keyboard is fried all of one year later and I’m looking at a huge repair bill, I’m starting to question my own sanity.  However, the truth is I still love my MacBook, despite that I’m using a USB keyboard to be able to work it.  If you’re just as head over heels for your MacBook, here’s one kitchen product you just have to have.

Mac lovers should never be stuck cutting up their food on a normal cutting board.  No, you need one made to look identical to your beloved MacBook.  They didn’t use just any wood to make this either, it’s made out of apple tree wood.  You can purchase one for EUR 43 or right around $54 by going here.

lomo360 Lomo Panoramic 360° CameraTake a Lomo camera and have it shoot at all angles around you and what do you get? Why, the Lomo Panoramic 360° Camera, of course! This £99.99 addition to your shutterbug collection will put a whole new perspective on things, and despite using 35mm film and a manual rubber band drive, it is one unique camera that is capable of shooting truly panoramic shots of the world around you. All you need to do is take hold of the handle, tug the ripcord and check out the Lomo as it spins on its own axis, shootnig everything all round in sight, making the final product four times longer compared to the standard landscape snap.

Perfect for those who want to expand upon their photography skills, and you can also shoot 180° images by only pulling the cord halfway. Since it uses traditional film, you’ll probably need to make more budget for all the amount of film involved, not to mention its processing.

trompe 300x160 Trompe L’Oeil door coversIf you attended any art or architecture class, then you’re probably familiar with the term trompe l’oeil. This is French for “fool (or deceive) the eye”, and it is essentially an optical illusion by design in a structure.

You see it when go walk in a city and see a mural that looks like it is a part of the street itself, or any other time you see furniture, paintings, or structures that look like one thing at first glance, but are something else when studied up close.

This is the case for this door cover here, aptly christened with the name of Trompe l’oeil. As you can see, you can put one on any door frame to make it look like portal to something else.

These door covers come in many designs like Montmartre’s Stairs, French Catacombs Stairs, Castel Corridor, Messy Book Stack, Old Metropolitan Stairs, Empty Dressing Room, Escalators, as well as the Store Front that you see to the right.

Of course, you will have to pay $199 to get one of these on your door, and I don’t know how well they would really fool anybody. The trompe l’oeil effect works better on a two dimensional photo than in real life.

Since they made door covers, I wonder why they don’t make window covers.

Picture 3 620x302 300x146 Computer graphics go holographic, thanks to new technologyWhat you are seeing here is a hologram, but unlike most holograms, it is not based on a real three dimensional object. What you see there was made in a computer.

This is some new technology being developed at Kansai University in Osaka, and it could easily be the next wave for holograms.

Granted, the CG images have to have a resolution of up to 128K x 64K. I have been told that that number is extremely high, as it takes a computer with 100GB of memory three days to process all that data.

I have included a video of it after the jump so you can see what it looks like. You will notice that the images are only in red for now, so it resembles a Virtual Boy. They are working on making them with different colors.

You realize what this means. Think of your favorite Pixar, PDI, or other cool CG movie fully rendered in 3D. Granted, it would be in monochromatic red if done now, and it would take years before you would have it, but the idea of the first holographic film excites me. Considering all these 2D films that have been made into 3D, just imagine how cool a CG movie would be in true holographic 3D.

This technology will be on display at the upcoming SIGGRAPH 2010, which is in Los Angeles starting Sunday.
