future screen 300x293 This could be what 2014 is likeYou should take a few minutes to watch this video by TAT. Honestly, I have never heard of TAT, but “TAT’s technology powers 470+ million devices, in more than 15 percent of all new phones in 2010 and 20 percent of all touch phones. TAT’s technology also powers DTVs, STBs, car clusters and tablets”.

This video, which shows the future of touchscreen technology, shows us “a normal day in 2014″. In all honesty, I am not certain that we will be this advanced by then.

I mean, just watch this video after the jump. In four years, I’m pretty certain that we’ll be able to shut off the alarm clocks on our mobile phones by waving, but I’m not certain whether they will have stretchable touchscreens.

I’m also not certain about the the desktops. They are transparent screens that are at least 27 inches from diagonal to diagonal. Will we be able to turn an image around backwards so someone on the other side of the screen can see it?

Then there is the whole sharing from screen to screen. Sure, we can do wireless transfers of files from one mobile to the other, but not like what you see here.

So, is this view of the future too optimistic? I’ll let you decide that. Better yet, Bookmark this article now and promise to read it in 2014, and we’ll see how right these TAT people are.

guard dog Guard Dog for your working desk

Do you love maintaining your personal space and jealously guard it as though it is the elixir of life itself? The Guard Dog which is USB-powered might just do the trick then – after all, it will growl menacingly at anyone who ventures too close to your cubicle for comfort. This is made possible thanks to a built-in motion sensor which will alert the Guard Dog to intruders, and unlike your average pooch that might be tempted by a poisoned piece of meat, this one won’t accept treats of any kind albeit living up to the adage that his bark is worse than his bite! You can choose to have the Guard Dog run off USB power (great during office hours) or battery (if you’re elsewhere away from a computer). Nice to know that it will already ship with a trio of AA batteries to help you get started right out of the box. The price to pay might be a wee bit steep for most people though – we’re talking about $79 here.

Picture 11 620x315 Sanyo Rechargeable Body Warmers

Bundling up can only keep you so warm, sometimes you need something to really burn the frostbite off.  Sanyo is creating a line of rechargeable warmers that’ll keep a couple of areas of your body warm.  One is even subtle enough that it won’t even be visible if you want it hidden from sight.

There is one for the waist that could easily be concealed underneath of a coat.  It comes in medium and large sizes.  As of October 7th they’ll be available in Japan for $96.  Then around your neck you can use the other warmer.  It comes in ivory and black and will be available on the same date as the waist warmer.  You can purchase the neck warmer for $84.

USB turtoise mouse USB Turtle Optical Mouse

I swear turtles are quickly becoming the new frogs.  Before there were tons of frog themed household items, but turtles being just as lovable, are quickly catching up.  This Tortoise Turtle USB Mouse is one way to show your love for the little guys.  For being a novelty mouse it still looks comfortable to use, which is definitely not always the case.

The turtle has all the usual features, it’s USB powered, has a scroll button as well as the typical 2 buttons.  It’s also, thankfully, an optical mouse.  It says it’s comfortable for both right and left handed use, but being a left handed person I can’t say that I’ve ever had the urge to use the mouse with my left hand.  It’s currently in stock and ready to be shipped, all you have to do is pay the $15.99 charge.  You can find it through Source Square.

visibleyou thumb 550xauto 44893 300x157 GE Visible You makes you a dancing skeletonThis is GE Visible You, on display at the Shanghai Expo. As you can see, it can help the user to act out their body as a living X-ray.

I’m sure that you’re probably wondering how this could be, as X-rays create a lot of harmful radiation. No, think of this like an application of the Microsoft Kinect. (Oh, a Kinect App, is there such a thing? Will there be?) As far as I know, it has nothing to do with the Kinect, though.

All the user has to do is stand in front of it, and it somehow reads you like a scanner and turn you into a moving skeleton. By the way, it can also scan you and give you a simulation of your muscular system and cardiovascular system. Of course, even though this is a real-time scan, don’t count on it finding any tumors.

Yes, I suppose this is one step closer to the X-ray screens that we saw in the movie Total Recall. They might be good at finding a gun, but I look forward to it when it can quickly find medical problems.

Until then, I hope that GE can somehow manufacture these things, and then put them in amusement parks or something.

I wouldn’t mind letting one of these things scan me so I can see my interior organs on display.

500x worldsbiggestwriting 660x647 300x294 Ayn Rand fan literally writes on the globe to show his devotionYou know those crop circles that you hear about? One theory is that aliens are really trying to write on our landscapes in their own language.

Now why would aliens do that, when this man, Nick Newcomen, just scrawled out a message on planet Earth in a human language. You can read it in the photo.

Newcomen drove for 30 days, through 30 states, for a grand total of 12,238 miles. He had a Qstarz BT-Q1000X as the medium for his message, and it can only seen with Google Earth with the recorded GPS device data.

This is probably the biggest sign in the world. It makes the Hollywood letters look like very fine legal print. Only the Great Wall of China could underline these three words.

Just to let you know, the driver didn’t write these words in order. He had to write the word “Rand”, then went north to write “Read”, and managed to do “Ayn”. Clearly the works of Anthem, The Fountainhead, and Atlas Shrugged are worth reading with this devotion. Let’s be glad that his favorite author wasn’t Fyodor Dostoevsky or something even longer. I wonder if he had to go off-road in order to make some of these giant letters.

Seriously, are the roads in the United States shaped like letters so well? Leave a comment if you know if anyone else has done something like this.

1000468 HNSEW02 A 400 300x300 Haier Dry Erase Refrigerator

Two great things to pick up for every college student is a mini fridge and a dry-erase board.  Then again those are items that could come in very handy later on in life as well.  Instead of having a dry-erase board and a mini fridge, you might as well pick up a mini fridge that can double as a dry erase board.  Thankfully there is this tiny affordable fridge that’s already up for sale in time for school to start.

It looks just like an ordinary mini fridge.  It looks so similar that you might start an epidemic of people writing on normal fridges in hopes that they’ll be just as erasable.  With this fridge you could write yourself out notes or leave a note for your roommate that you’re out of a certain refrigerated item.  The 1.7 Cu Ft fridge can be purchased for $99.99 through Meijer.

800px Kheops Pyramid 610x374 300x183 Great Pyramid to be explored by robotThis is the Great Pyramid of Giza, and it has been around since 2560 B.C.. Believe it or not, there are some areas of it that have

not been explored.

In fact, there are two unexplored air shafts that can cannot be searched in the traditional archeological manner. The solution is robots.

This is the Djedi project, a robotic tunnel explorer that can drill through stone and burrow through holes less than one inch in diameter. It also has a mini ultrasonic device that is able to listen to the response to help determine the “thickness and condition of the stone, and a coring drill that can penetrate the rock (if necessary) while removing the minimum amount of material necessary”. Lights and “snake cameras” will help the researchers see exactly where it is going.

This is important because an archaeological expedition in 1992 found a limestone door with two copper handles. After drilling through that door ten years later, they found another door, and they still don’t know what is behind that other door.

It is delicate work, and who knows what could be behind that door. Maybe it is some giant machine that will destroy the sun, like in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Oh, that is just one of the bad things of that awful film. Here’s hoping they find some real treasure.

keyboard1 High Contrast Keyboard helps you see betterLearning how to type using all five fingers? Why not let the High Contrast Keyboard help you out, as it offers an easy-to-read keyboard layout, complete with high-contrast keys as well as enlarged print. The bright yellow keys will be labeled in black, san serif type, which is more or less similar to the same high-visibility color scheme that is found in highway warning signs. All 43-point characters (about 9/16″ tall) are heat transferred to the keys, following that with a UV coating for lasting durability.

It won’t be different in terms of key layout compared to a regular 103-key keyboard, where all 12 function keys are on the top row with nine buttons for common multimedia and browser commands. Rated for 10 million keystrokes, it will play nice with Windows 7, Vista, and XP operating systems. Expect to fork out around $49.95 for this puppy.
