Verizon Wireless formally announces the Droid 2

37520 Droid2 Front Open LRG H4 Web LR 610x486 300x239 Verizon Wireless formally announces the Droid 2 I’ve been seeing a lot of leaks during the past few months about the Droid 2, and it was about time Verizon Wireless made a formal announcement about it.

I believe that this is one of the first Android phones that will come with version 2.2 (Froyo) pre-installed. It will also feature Adobe Flash Player 10.1, Swype, 8GB of memory, plus a microSD card with an additional 8GB more in it.

It also features a 5 Megapixel camera as well as raised keyboard, something that the original Droid did not have. Droid 2 also has a faster 1GHz TI OMAP processor and twice as much RAM than its predecessor.

The Droid 2 will be available for pre-sale on the Verizon website on August 11, and then will be in stores on August 12 for $199.99 with a two-year contract as well as a $100 mail-in rebate.

If you want, you can pay an extra $20 monthly fee that will make your Droid 2 a mobile hot spot for five devices with Hotspot Service.

If you are willing to wait, you can get a special limited edition of the Droid 2 that is an homage to everyone’s favorite Droid with a 2 in its name, R2-D2. It will be out in September, and have exclusive Star Wars content and an R2-D2 look.

magicmirror1 300x188 Magic Mirror can do some interesting, interactive things We’ve seen a lot of magic mirrors here on Coolest Gadgets, like the Magic Mirror Security System and the Interactive Mirror. This is another in a short line of magical mirrors.

This “magic mirror” is designed by Al Linke, and my source says that it was originally designed for his daughter’s playhouse. I’m not certain what he intended it to do for his daughter, maybe some sort of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs tribute toy.

He definitely put a whole new twist on it as he was able to give it the ability to give weather reports. It can also tell you how your stock portfolio is progressing. Another added feature is breathalyzer mode.

All you have to do is breathe into a small apparatus (not the mirror glass itself) and it will read your Blood Alcohol Level.

I certain don’t see why there couldn’t be a custom-made magic mirror for everyone. I think I would design it like the Yahoo home page, so it could read me my email, give me news headlines, and maybe even give me my schedule.

I’m not certain if I want that face talking to me. I could use a little something impersonal for interaction.
